Xobas (pronounced Kohbahs) is one of the first characters we meet in A Dagger in the Winds. There was something fun about writing the first non-POV character as a foreigner to the tribe (he is a former commander with the nomadic Clan of Simuk). He brings practical opinions from the view of an outsider and is much like a father figure to Wacław.

One of the most fascinating things about Xobas is his unwillingness to speak about why he ended up with the Krowikie tribe in the first place. He bears a tattoo of a horse on his forearm, covering a gruesome scar. The horse to the Simukie is a holy symbol, as their bond with their mount is closer than that between a married couple. But Xobas has no horse. At least, not anymore.
