Meet Ivan 181375 aka “Coyote.”
“Coyote survived, so Ivan could live.”
– From The Fractured Prism
An ambitious and cunning rebel, Ivan has worked his way up the ranks of the Militia, and at twenty-one years old is the youngest lieutenant in the group. As a Red living among the outcasts of society and watching many starve or be killed by government forces, Ivan is dedicated to protecting his fellow Reds, fighting the socialist United People’s Front, and ending the Prism Test that splits people into color-coded classes on their sixteenth birthday.
Despite being a rebel and slave to the government, Ivan still finds humor in his daily life. His team within the Militia is the closest thing he has to a family, and his best friend, Delaware, has been a sister to him ever since he brought her into his team. Meanwhile, his old mentor, Poseidon, is the only father figure he’s ever had and has taught him how to live in the Militia.
When Ivan returns home from his work in the St. Paul steel mill, he must put on his mask and take on the responsibilities of Coyote. Night after night he leads his team on missions to gather information on government activities, smuggle supplies to struggling Reds across the Twin Cities, and plan operations in hopes of eventually destroying the Prism. His missions and articles in the underground St. Paul Free Press have made his alias famous, but Ivan dreams of an end to his country’s dystopian government without another war. He sees hope in the people of his city.
As he nears the brink of his biggest operation yet, his life is turned upside down by an encounter in downtown St. Paul that will change his life forever. In one night, Ivan will go from backstreet rebel to the savior of a princess, and he will face a royal world entirely different than his own. His loyalties will be tested, and he will have to decide what matters to him more: his fight or the princess’s life.
Read Ivan’s story in The Prism Files, beginning with book one, The Fractured Prism.
