It’s December already, and I can’t decide whether the year has flown or crawled by. . . Just kidding, it definitely crawled. On the bright side, 2021 is right around the corner, and I have some fun updates for everyone on my writing progress.
Note: As I continue working on A Dagger in the Winds, the first book in my Slavic fantasy series called The Frostmarked Chronicles, I’m accepting advance readers (early reviewers) for the book! If you’re interested in free side novellas attached to the stories as well as early insights into the series, you can also join my monthly newsletter.
First off, November was supposed to be NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) for me, and I had planned to do two novellas related to The Frostmarked Chronicles, my Slavic fantasy series. Instead, I took a week off with vacation mid-month and finished only the prequel novella before directing my time toward working on book 2 in the series. That second novella will still be released around the time that second book is, but I’ll just be working on it sometime next year.
The prequel novella itself I’m pretty excited about. It is my first time doing a novella as well as third-person, and it has been fun to add to the world of The Frostmarked Chronicles through a story that is connected without being required. My goal with it is to introduce you to some other elements and characters in the world that you may see again in the main series. It also will be able to be read at any time, before you’ve read any books in the main series or after. I have a working name for it that I’m revealing exclusively to my newsletter subscribers later this month. Make sure to sign-up if you haven’t yet to keep updated.
The second book in The Frostmarked Chronicles is coming along well too. I’m about 60% done with the first draft, and I’m well on pace for that draft to be finished before the end of January. My goal is for this one to be released in winter of 2021, so the wait won’t be too long after A Dagger in the Winds.
Speaking of A Dagger in the Winds, it is currently with the first round of beta readers. Thank you to everyone who took the time to join my beta reader team. I’ve got an awesome group from around the world, and I’m excited by the initial feedback and can’t wait to hear more to ensure the book is as good as possible for its summer 2021 release. I’m still looking for ARC readers (receive a free copy in exchange for an honest review) as well.
Lastly, I’m planning to reveal the final cover for A Dagger in the Winds in April of next year. The illustration, by Ukrainian artist @Marichka__Art on Instagram, is complete (and awesome), and I’ll be soon finalizing the cover with the Serbian company Deranged Doctor Design. Stay tuned for more information there, and be sure to join my newsletter to get early sneak peeks exclusive to that list.
That’s it for this month’s update. If you’ve been following my Slavic Saturday series, I’ll see you tomorrow for that post, but if not, then until next year everyone! I hope you all have a great holiday season, whether you’re celebrating Christmas or another holiday.
